If you’re thinking of starting a home-based business, you’re probably aware of some of the obstacles you face. But, can you overcome them? Here’s a look at 9 reasons NOT to start a home-based business - at least if you’re not capable of overcoming them with a little work and determination.

Home Based Business Obstacles

Unproven Opportunities.

The fact is that many of the home business opportunities are just too new. The market for the products and services is not well-established, the owners may not have enough experience, it may have incurred huge debt starting up, etc… There are about a thousand things that could be a problem with a new opportunity. For the most part opportunities that are brand new are too risky! While it is possible that they may end up being the greatest opportunity in the world and you would have been well off if you got in early, the chances of that happening are slim

The business is filled with gaps and missing pieces.

There is so much hype. However, when you take a closer look at what’s being offered, you’ll find the work-at-home opportunity is pure fluff and fiction. If you do some research you’ll discover that only the heavy hitters make the money, the company behind it is getting rich, and the products and services being sold are only to the distributors. This would be a horrible type of business to become involved.

You Can’t Get or Afford Health Insurance on Your Own

It’s pretty risky to go without health insurance. One substantial illness or injury and you could be bankrupt. If you are going to operate a home business full time, it will be up to you to figure out how you will get health insurance at a rate you can afford. If you have any kind of illness or past medical history, getting health insurance on the open market is nearly impossible, especially as you get older.

Don’t tell all of your friends about the business that you’re going to start someday soon. Every minute that you spend telling someone you love about your future business is one less minute you have to either try to find someone to buy your product/service or to refine it. Plus, everyone knows an “entrepreneur” that is all talk and no action: don’t be one yourself.

Working from home gives you the potential of earning big income, even riches, while in the comfort of your own home. You can choose to setup a home business or you can assume a telecommuting job. Either way, you have the option to do it full time or part time. You can leave your day job altogether and work from your home office. You can also choose to do the work-from-home job on the side so you can collect extra income.
