Measure the right things

When executives want to know how the organization is performing they analyze outcomes, not individual employees’ performance appraisal results. While employee performance is necessary to achieve the desired outcomes, that information is not sufficient to answer the executives’ question. Similarly, when executives ask how HR adds value to the organization, they want to know what results HR has delivered, not how it performed the activities required to provide those outomes.

Track Performance

You can tell how successful your business has been by taking a look at your P&L. As a member of staff within your business, especially the lower down the ladder you go, the less a person’s performance is tied to the profit of your business. Incentivising your staff to perform is one thing; however you should also ensure you track your staff and show them how they perform against their co-workers. This will unlock hidden energies within your staff, and make them compete with one another.

Take risks

As parents, we tend to be nurturing, caring, careful and cautious. It’s great for raising kids, but not for creating your ideal life. It’s scary to leave your comfort zone, but it’s also exciting. Ask yourself, if I were guaranteed success in my dream business, what would I do? Why not do for yourself what you do for your kids every day? Nudge yourself to try something new. Challenge yourself. Let yourself climb higher than you thought possible. Don’t be afraid of stumbling, you’ll get back up and try again!
Implementation.

During Implementation, you begin to put pieces of your transition plan into action. You may begin a course of study, reduce your expenses, if warranted, and/or even make physical preparations such as relocation or building a home office. To minimize your personal and financial risk, you want to do as much of this as possible while you are still working. Career change is an intriguing creature. On one hand, it’s a wiggly, non-linear process which can have many uncomfortable moments.

Be Contagious!

When people hear you talk about your project, business, or idea, they should feel your excitement and determination. It’s okay to be brimming with joy about what you’re doing, because that spirit will attract the right people, opportunities, circumstances, and staff to assist in building your dream.

And finally, enjoy your home business. Many start their own business to spend more time with their family. It’s the perfect way to stay at home and still make an excellent income. Firmly set your hours and learn to say no. Remember it’s your business and often your dream come true. By learning your limitations, you can keep it a wonderful experience that both you and your family will enjoy. These are the steps for a successful home business.
